Since 1981 he has served as a 1st level Director at the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute
Since 2000 he has led the 'Orthopedics–Traumatology and Prostetic Surgery and hip and knee implant revisions' Complex as a 2nd level Director .
He is also the Director of the Medical Technology Lab Complex

He is the author of over 300 scientific publications as well as the co-editor of the scientific journal Hip Internaional–the official organ of the European Hip Society.
He is a member of the editorial board on the following scientific journals: Biomaterials; Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (Br); Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology.
He is a Member of the Scientific Committee of Sphera Medical Journal
Clinical and/or scientific interests:
He is mainly interested in the treatment of degenerative hip pathologies with particular attention to the use of innovative prostheses in terms of materials (the pairing up of ceramic-caramic) and surgical implantation techniques (minimally invasive techniques).
He set up a technique for preoperative evaluation using advanced technologies for preoperative classification and surgical programming in case of major joint deformities (congenital hip dislocation results, trauma outcomes...) and in case of reimplantation.
He has carried out 3,515 major surgical procedures as 1st surgeon, of which 2,295 were prostheic operations: hip or knee prosthetics or prosthetic revisions thereof.
