Dott. Massimo Balsano

Born in Padova
Dr. Balsano graduated from the University of Padua in the academic year of 1982/83 and continued his orthopedic career at the Orthopedic Clinic of Padua where he specialized in Orthopedics and Traumatology.
He worked as a hospital assistant followed by attending assistant-manager at the Orthopedic Clinic of Padua. In 2000 after a public competition, he became the Complex Director of the Orthopedics department in Thiene (VI), ULSS 4 'Alto Vicentino'.
From March 1st 2003 he was also nominated as the Complex Director of the Orthopedics Department in Schio (VI).
He is currently the Director of two Orthopedic Complexes in ULSS 4 'Alto Vicentino'.
This structure has been recognised as the Regional Reference Centre for Spinal Surgery following the DGR of 10/02/05.
Ever since his attendance at the Orthopedic Clinic of Padua he has above all been interested in spinal pathologies.
He enriched his professional background and his scientific training by attending the world's largest centre of Spinal Surgery, including the 'Twin Cities Spine Center' in Minneapolis (USA) where he was a resident under the guidance of Professor John Lonstein; the 'Leathermann Spine Center di Louisville (USA); The Hospital Group 'Pitič-Salpetriere' in Paris (France), an adjunct Professor of Pathology and Spine Trauma at the School of Specialization in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the Univeristy of Padua from 1996 until 2003, and an adjunct professor of Spine Trauma at the School of Specialization in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at the Univeristy of Verona in 2004.
He has been a speaker and moderator at numerous national and international congresses in the field of spinal pathology.
He has organized several national congresses.
He is a member of the governing council of SICV-G.I.S. (Italian society of Spinal surgery–Italian group of spinal surgery), a candidate fellow of the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), a member of the Italian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SIOT) at the Emilia-Romagna-Triveneto Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (S.E.R.T.O.T.) and an honorary member of the Italian Group of the Study of Scoliosis (GSS).
From March 2006, Dr. Balsano entered on the Editorial Board of the prestigious magazine, the “European Spine Journal'.
He is the author of around eighty published works in national and international publications.
He is a member on the Scientific Committee of Sphera Medical Journal.
He has performed more than 2,500 specialized surgical interventions on the spine, including the treatment of spinal deformities, fractures, tumors, degenerative disease, herniated discs, etc.
