Specialization in orthopedics and traumatology–graduated on 17th February 1977 from the University of Bologna.
Specialization in physiotherapy and rehabilitation–graduated on 11th December 1981 from the University of Bologna.
Work experience (positions held):
Dr. Donzelli has been working in the Pedriactic Division at the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute ever since he was hired in July 1974.
He received the title of Head Physician from the Italian medical board in 1983 and was responsible for the organizational module, “reductive limb deformities”, and was a research fellow on two research projects: 1) reductive deformity of the lower limbs; 2) malformations and congenital deformities.
He was the first orthopedic surgeon to apply the Ilizarov method at the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute after a stay in Kurgan in 1984. He performed 7,740 surgical operations as primary surgeon from 1976 until 31st August 2009, of which around 600 were limb extensions.
He is a professor at the School of Specialization in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University of Bologna.
He has been a speaker at several national and international conferences on pediatric orthopedics and he is the author of numerous scientific publications published in national and international journals.
He is the Division Head of Orthopedic Surgery and Pediatric Trauma for the Sphera medical journal.
Clinical and/or scientific interests:
The application of stem cells for congenital bone defects; studies on growth plates; the application of minimally invasive techniques on congenital deformities.
